Amen! Bendiciones!
Gloria a Dios hermana! Tremendo testimonio. Sin duda, cuando uno se prepara con ayuno y oracion, Dios respalda y siempre supera nuestras expectativas! Bendiciones!
1. It is important to know how to pray for others, not just with the word we use, but rather the actions we take. One ethical aspect to consider is how we talk to the person, making sure we do not yell/spit on them. Another thing to be cautious about is the imposition of the hands’ by being careful how and where we touch people we are praying for so that we do not hurt them or make them feel uncomfortable in any way. Sometimes it is not even necessary to lay hands on people, just praying for them is more than enough. It is important to help the person that you are praying for, understand that God is present and willing to heal. Listen to them to know what the problem is and so God can guide you in how to pray specifically for their healing.
2. It is recommended to have good hygiene when praying for others, this includes: fresh/good breath, clean hands and odor, etc. Other recommendations to consider when ministering someone is that of treating them with respect at all times, speaking with authority but gently, covering them if needed, and lastly respecting gender boundaries. Lastly, it is important to understand that not all healings will happen right then and there. Sometimes it will require us to organize a group so that we can come together in fasting and prayer for the healing of someone. Not one healing will ever be exactly the same. God works in mysterious ways.
3. I found it very interesting how the professor mentions that healing is calling for all the children of God. Although there is a specific ministry for that, it should not be a limitation for the church to take on the role of praying for the healing of others. Sometimes God just needs someone to step up in faith so He can be made known. I also thought it very interesting when Pastor Herrera mentioned that if you don’t know the exact name of the sickness, you can still pray with authority and power, against the effects of that sickness that are known or visible.
4. For the glory and honor of God, I have been able to minister a few healings. One that I can recall is that of praying for my aunt because they had found a tumor. I had specifically gone to her house to pray because they had told her she would need to be scheduled for surgery very soon. I remember that as I prayed for her, a strong thought was resonating that said: “tell her to testify about it”. I prayed for her a few days before she went to the doctor to set up her appointment for surgery and told her that it was important to testify about what God had done. When she went she was given the news at the doctor, she had indeed been healed and no surgery was needed. However, time passed and she did not testify. Long story short, it ended up coming back and had to be surgically removed. Thankfully, God was merciful and allowed for a successful surgery, but I do believe that God allowed her to go through this process because of the failure to testify. It is important for us to testify of the things God does because that is how people will get to know the One True God and what He can do.
PTL! Amen sister. I love how, we too can be an active part of fulfilling the mission of God. «There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus». As His children, we are all called by God to be part of influencing the world around us and leading them back to Christ.
PTL! I agree with you sister. Evangelical Gnosticism dilutes the mission because it also dilute the Word of God. People fall into false beliefs and teachings, that lead them to live a life that limits what God can do in them and through them. If we only focus on the spiritual, then the church looses its essence. We are God’s hands and feet in this world. We are to share gospel, but share it in its fulness. We are to live the gospel, but live it in its fulness. All areas of our life should reflect the God we serve and preach.
Evangelical Gnosticism is a belief that God is only interested in some areas of our life, therefore enticing people to live in a “liberal” way & ignore what God has established. This type of thinking can affect the fulfillment of the mission because it leads the church astray by giving a focus on only the spiritual things, yet leaving aside the physical needs of the world. As a church we are not only called to spread the gospel, but also to put our faith into action by living it in all areas of our life. (“Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them”)
During the Reformation, people went back to the Scriptures to present a Biblical view of things. As more people get access to the Word of God, mindsets begin to shift & so does the idea of separating the secular from the spiritual. People begin to understand that God wants us to fully consecrate ourselves to Him & not live a life of dualism. This is the mindset that needs to be recovered by the church so that we don’t accommodate to the new world views but rather stand in the Biblical view that God designed.
The priesthood of all believers is to put more emphasis on the Biblical view in order to better fulfill the mission of God. We are called to do all things for His glory, every day.
PtL sister! I am in total agreement with your response. If as a church we are able to effectively follow the processes of winning, consolidating, and discipling people; we would indeed be contributing to God’s mission. The keywords here are «ongoing cycle», as you mentioned. If every soul that has been won, would join the mission to win more souls, all nations would come to know and serve our God in a heartbeat. As the church, we are given a commandment from God himself, to which we have no other choice than to obey, simply because of how much we treasure and appreciate what He has done for us first. It is with gratitude and love that we should answer his call to disciple all nations, one soul at a time.
PtL brother! I liked that you mentioned: «A missional church does not make the mission part of what it does, the mission is what the church does». Sometimes we fall into the idea that as long as we are serving in some type of way, we are being obedient to God’s call. However, His call is for us all is be to aligned with His mission of winning people around the world. Every ministry is important, but we must not forget that ministries need to work together toward God’s mission.
To me, a Missional Church, is a church that knows their God-given identity and purpose. Knowing both of these things, will further allow us to fulfill God’s mission in and for the world. It is more than just being part of a specific ministry and is more focused on the actual mission itself. A missional church may have diverse ministries operating within, however, the mission continues to be the same for all: spreading the gospel & saving souls. We are to use our ministry to fulfill the mission, without losing sight of the end-goal.
